Arun had set its tax for 2008/9 at 3%, where as the government had only given Arun an increase of 1.7% whereas the RPI was running at 5.4%. We as a council are committed in the long term at no more than a 3% increase on average keep Arun’s share of council tax and its low share of the overall total.
The government continues to load new responsibilities on local authorities and they never fund this extra activity, so local councils have to continue to review their operations and reduce their budgets, the one thing you can be assured with Conservative councils is that we will alls cut out waste wherever we can.
