The current A27 either side of Arundel is just not working, at peak times it is not unusual to have mile long tailbacks either side of Arundel, the economic cost of this congestion and delay is costing the local economy dearly. The environmental cost is just as severe; you have many vehicles having to queue in long tailbacks that are belching polluting gases into the atmosphere. If they could use a new bypass (which would be routed away from the town) the vehicles impact would be less on the environment and the local population, as they would travel at their optimum speed and environmental efficiency.
There is also an issue of Safety, there have been many accidents resulting in a number of fatalities, the roadside is littered with ad-hoc flower memorials to the victims, the danger to children and the elderly is obvious and the building of the bypass would substantially reduce the loss of life and limb.
The government has now ducked the question by delegating the decision to SEERA an un-elected and unrepresentative body set up by the government. The Bypass has been given an incredibly low priority of 5 (1 being highest and 9 being lowest) that condemns Arundel to the status quo for decades to come. This is an unacceptable situation and shows what a spineless government we have at Westminster. The soonest we can expect a Bypass will be 2016, but the Government expects us to change our hospitals and build thousands of new houses without investing in new infrastucture.
Our MP Nick Herbert is trying his best to change this situation and I will continue to work with him to remedy the situation.
